A Purely Arithmetical, yet Empirically Falsifiable, Interpretation of Plotinus’ Theory of Matter

چکیده
There is a vast literature where Gödel’s first and second incompleteness theorems are used to argue that human beings are different of, if not superior to, any machine. The most famous attempts have been given by J. Lucas in the early sixties and by R. Penrose in two famous books [53, 54]. Such type of argument are not well supported. See for example the recent book by T. Franzèn [21]. There is also a less well known tradition where Gödel’s theorems is used in favor of the mechanist thesis. Emil Post, in a remarkable anticipation written about ten years before Gödel published his incompleteness theorems, already discovered both the main “Gödelian motivation” against mechanism, and the main pitfall of such argumentations [17, 55]. Post is the first discoverer of Church Thesis, or Church Turing Thesis, and Post is the first one to prove the first incompleteness theorem from a statement equivalent to Church thesis, i.e. the existence of a universal—Post said “complete”—normal (production) system. In his anticipation, Post concluded at first that the mathematician’s mind or that the logical process is essentially creative. He adds :

Responsibility of Cosmetic Surgeons with Three Bases of Fault Statistics, Fault Theory and Risk Theory
The present research, which is descriptive-analytic, answers the basic question of which basis of responsibility is more consistent with the doctors of the surgeon (pure) and closer to justice ?! Among the various types of foundations of doctors' responsibility, in the more or less complicated process of treatment and treatment, the underlying assumption of fault is more closely aligned between...
متن کاملHermeneutic Analysis of Transcendental Medicine Theory and its Application in Deep Medicine from the Perspective of Islamic Medicine Paradigm
The principles of Islamic medicine are still unknown. Although various studies about Islamic medicine have been carried out, the philosophical foundations and framework of the theorizing of it have not yet been elucidated. Some of theorists have explored transcendental medicine theory (TMT) and its application in deep medicine paradigm. For studying of theoretical framework of the TMT, the pres...
متن کاملThe Axiomatic Structure of Empirical Content
In this paper, we provide a formal framework for studying the empirical content of a given theory. We define the falsifiable closure of a theory T with respect to T ′ to be the largest subtheory of T ′ with respect to which T cannot be falsified with a finite data set. We provide a syntactic characterization of the falsifiable closure operator, showing it is equivalent to the theory which is ax...
متن کاملA Sound and Complete Proof Theory for Propositional Logical Contingencies
There are simple, purely syntactic axiomatic proof systems for both the logical truths and the logical falsehoods of propositional logic. However, to date no such system has been developed for the logical contingencies, that is, formulas that are both satisfiable and falsifiable. This paper formalizes and purely syntactic axiomatic proof systems for the logical contingencies and proves its soun...
متن کاملTowards a Sustainable Anti-Corruption Strategy: An Ethic-Induced Model
Literature abounds to show that the current anti-corruption strategies have failed to fight corruption because of neglect of ethics in these strategies, despite its importance. The purpose of this paper is to make a contribution to anti-corruption theory by developing a model that clarifies many complex ethical dilemmas around corruption. To develop a conceptual model, the extant literatures on...
